However, when in the neighborhood of Saunders Island, with the aid of my glass, I discovered a number of bulls. This difference was apparent by the fact that their tusks extend from the head almost parallel with each other, which is not the case with the cows. We had no Eskimos on board, and I asked Lieutenant Peary to accompany me. Approaching rather cautiously an icepan upon which were several large bulls, I was able to kill two huge beasts, apparently with but two shots.
